What Can We Learn from the Wisdom of STUCK?

Imagine your goal-based vehicle slamming to a stop. Five or six figures stand directly in your path.
“&%^$#@! NO TIME for such nonsense! Not today.
There’s a to-do list pinging commands from your latest productivity app. A nail-biting meeting scheduled five minutes from NOW. And a crushing feeling that your promise to find “down-time” is careening toward the back burner….AGAIN.
Of course you don’t want to mow down the strange crowd before you. So you honk. You yell. But they simply radiate smiles above orange robes and sandaled feet.
Finally you get out of the car. Highly miffed. And they begin to explain…they are here because you called.
And then you notice. Their attention is on an elegant, but very worn book.
“Does this book have the answers, or not?” you find yourself blurting.
Your guides chuckle.
“No….no answers. Only a question.”
Questions! I’ve already got more questions than I need. I thought you were here to help me.
I’m out of here.
But…just in case there is some truth to the zen-men’s wise personification, you add…
“Would you kindly move so I can get on with my day?”
As you leap into your vehicle, a low toned emanation drifts from your air conditioning vent. Indistinct at first, but becoming clearer as you attend to the sound. Hmmm…..somewhat like a chant? More akin to wind than words, but you hear it all the same.
CREATIVE DISRUPTION CHALLENGE: WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE WISDOM OF “STUCK”
STEP 1- WHAT DOES STUCK FEEL LIKE?
They tell us we only have this moment.
But deadlines loom. Dreams fade with the ticking of the clock. And we are left breathless. Strangling our hours with the grip of future-facing-fear.
Add words that represent how time feels to you. Use a pre-painted background of any color.
Become attuned to feeling the physical effects of striving. Tight muscles? Shallow breath? Unfocused mind?
STEP 2- THE ENERGY YOU SHARE
Our energy is always shared with others. So why not make a point to notice the silent signals your busy life is communicating?
Add stenciling to your exploration. Perhaps in an unexpected color! (Brains are maximally creative when they trade security for surprise… David Eagleman, Runaway Species)
Add a list of exactly what happens when you are not in the moment. Be very honest.
STEP 3- WHAT DOES YOUR STUCK PLACE WANT YOU TO KNOW?
How can you make peace with time?
Why do you think you feel the fires of hell scorching your feet when you aren’t achieving?
What is it like to imagine not trying to achieve any goals? Whose voice can you hear in the background? Who else?
Paint or stencil a slogan. One that gives you permission to LET GO of time striving. Or reminds you to be kind to body and soul.
STEP 4- CLAIM YOUR POWER TO EASE THE BURDEN OF STRESS IN YOUR LIFE
Remove some of the background clutter.
This is a physical reminder that WE are the ones best qualified to reduce the distractions and discomforts of life.
Don’t forget to leave a few peeps of the understory to represent the textures of your life.
